Gua Sha – The Secret of a Radiant Face
We had such a wonderful time at our Gua Sha Workshop this week.
After a moisturizing spa hand treatment, Annegret led everyone through a mini-facial routine to prepare the skin for a Gua Sha Facial. Then, Jenna Francesca, Master Bodyworker, taught us the ancient Chinese Gua Sha Practice.
What is a Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is a traditional Chines medicine practice that involve using a stone tool to scrape the skin, gently of course! The purpose is to promote muscle relaxation, lymphatic drainage and improve circulation. It also lifts the facial muscles to reduce sag and puffiness.
What did we learn?
This beautiful practice is more than just a massage. It is a ritual of mindfulness, self-love and self-care. Jenna taught us to connect to the stone and trust our instincts when picking one. For her, Rose Quartz has a pleasant, light feeling of self-love. Jade has the feeling of grounding and cooling.
We not only learned a facial care technique – we activated a deeper relationship with the fascia, energy, and lived expression of our face in this world.
Here is Jenna’s gentle reminder to revisit your Gua Sha ritual this month:
- Once a month is a supportive rhythm – it gives your fascia time to renew, respond, and integrate. Your face will thank you.
Monthly Gua Sha Reset Ritual
- Warm The Tissue
- Do your ritual after a warm shower, bath, or sauna so the fascia is soft and receptive.
- Prepare Your Skin
- Cleanse your skin - with your favorite cleanser. We applied our Chamomile Cream Cleanser on face, neck and decollete and covered our face with a damp, warm towel for a minute to allow the product to soothe and soften our skin and relax our minds. Then gently was the cleanser off.
- Hydrate to plump your skin - spray your favorite toner into your hands and gently press it into your skin, neck and decollete . We enjoyed our Rose Toner, which scents also uplift and elevate our mind and vibrational energy.
- Create slip and glide to your skin – apply two pumps of your Vitamin E Serum in your hands, rub them slightly to distribute the oil evenly, and then press it gently into the skin of your face, neck and decollete. Repeat this step during the Gua Sha Flow whenever more glide is needed.
- Gua Sha Flow
- To apply gentle, consistent pressure with the Gua Sha stone – never force. Your fascia responds to presence, not pushing. It holds memories and emotions.
- Neck drainage – with downward strokes
- Jawline and cheeks – with upward/outward strokes
- Under eyes and brow – gentle lifting
- Forehead – with a center to temple sweep
- Finish & Seal
- Apply a rich crème like the Royal Jelly Crème or Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin C Moisturizer for daytime and the Rose Crème for nighttime
- Sweep upward along your neck, outward across your decollete, shoulders, and arms.
- Circle gently around the hairline to complete the circuit. Then pause. Look into your own eyes. Let self-love rise through your body and heart. Your presence is your glow.
Keep in mind - to skip Gua Sha if you are experiencing
-
- Active breakouts
- Open wounds
- Recent cosmetic injections (within 2 weeks)
